Overview

Founded in 2003, the PAGE International Screenwriting Awards is widely recognized as one of the industry's top sources for new screenwriting talent, both within the Hollywood community and internationally. In the fall of each year the PAGE Judges present Gold, Silver, and Bronze Prizes in each of our ten genre categories – plus our huge $25,000 Grand Prize.

Most importantly, over the past 20 years the PAGE screenplay contest has helped launch the careers of many dozens of talented screenwriters. Our winning writers have signed with top literary representatives, optioned and sold their winning scripts, landed paid writing assignments, and many now have movies and television shows in production, on the air, and in theaters.

Rules & Guidelines

01

1. All writers of submitted material must be over 18 years of age on the date of submission, and each writer or writing team may not have earned a total of more than $50,000 or the foreign equivalent (jointly or individually) for their work as a screenwriter and/or fictional television writer.

2. Writers who reside in countries other than the United States are also welcome and encouraged to enter the contest; however, all scripts must be submitted in English and entry fees must be paid in U.S. dollars. Entry in the competition is void where prohibited by law.

3. Judges, sponsors, administrators, and independent contractors who currently or have previously worked with or for the PAGE International Screenwriting Awards and/or Production Arts Group are not eligible to enter the competition, nor are their spouses or other immediate family members.

4. Scripts must be the original work of the author(s), and on the date of submission the work must be wholly owned and controlled by the author(s). If a screenplay has been sold, is currently under option, is being produced, or is in any other way encumbered by a third party on the date of submission, the script is not eligible for an award. If a script is optioned, sold, or produced after it has been entered, it will remain eligible for an award this year’s contest.

5. Only original screenplays and teleplays are eligible for awards. Novels, short stories, stage plays, treatments, synopses, reality show concepts and spec scripts for existing TV series are not accepted in the contest. Scripts that have previously won a prize in the PAGE Awards competition are also ineligible.

6. Adaptations of books, plays, or any other source material written by another author are not eligible under any circumstances. A script that you have adapted from your own book, play, or other source material is eligible if you have retained all film and television rights to the property.

7. Submissions and entry fees must be postmarked or transmitted electronically on or before 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time on the Early, Regular, Late, or Last Minute Entry Deadline in order to qualify for those entry rates. Any script submitted after the Final Entry Deadline will be disqualified. The contest and its administrators are not responsible for entries that are lost, stolen, or damaged in transit.

8. All entries are final. We cannot return scripts or refund entry fees once they have been submitted.

9. Once a script has been entered in the competition, under no circumstances will we accept substitutions of new drafts or corrected pages. If you wish to submit a revised draft of your screenplay, you must enter it as a new submission and pay the appropriate entry fee. (PLEASE NOTE: We understand that writers always want the Judges to have the opportunity to read their very best work; therefore, if you advance to the Semi-Final Round of the contest we will invite you to send us the latest draft of your script for the final two rounds of judging completely free of charge. So please do keep revising and refining your script as the spirit moves you!)

10. Decisions of the Judges are final and may not be disputed. Our Judges are instructed and agree to evaluate scripts based on our standard Judging Procedure; however, the PAGE Awards contest and its administrators may not be held responsible for any errors or omissions on the part of the Judges.

Frequently Asked Questions

I entered the PAGE Awards contest last year and since then I've rewritten my script. Can I submit it again this year?
Please do! As long as your screenplay has never won any of our awards in the past, you’re more than welcome to submit it again this year. Our Judges very much understand and appreciate the fact that “writing is rewriting,” and we encourage writers to continue to develop and improve their work. In fact, many of our winning scripts have been rewrites of scripts that were previously submitted.
Do you accept scripts for animated films and/or musicals?
Yes, we do. In fact, we’ve had many animation scripts and musicals among our lists of Winners and Finalists, including our 2010 Grand Prize winner. These types of scripts are generally entered in the Family Film category; but, depending upon the tone, style, and length of your screenplay, you may also enter it in the Comedy, Science Fiction, Action/Adventure, Short Film, or TV Comedy category.
I wrote a novel (or stage play or article or short story) that would make a great movie! Can I submit it to the contest?
No, we do not accept novels, short stories, stage plays, treatments, proposals, or spec scripts for existing TV series. Only original screenplays, short film scripts, and TV pilots are eligible for the PAGE Awards competition.
Will you accept a screenplay that's an adaptation of a book or stage play?
Under no circumstances can we accept adaptations of books, plays, or other source material written by other authors; however, if you have personally written a story in a different medium and have retained all film and television rights to that story, you may submit your screen adaptation of your own material. In order for an adaptation to be eligible, the writer of the original source material must be credited as the screenplay’s author (or one of the authors) on our contest entry form.
My script is based on true historical events, and I did a lot of research using books and articles written by other authors. Is this script admissible?
Yes, as long as your script does not violate any other author’s copyrighted material, we do accept stories about historical events and public figures. In fact, we have created a special Historical Film category for these types of true stories and biopics. In order to be certain your script qualifies, make sure you utilize multiple sources in researching your story and do not copy or adapt any other author’s work.
What information do you want on the title page of my script?
Since our judging process is anonymous, please include only the title of your script on your title page. (If you have one, you may also include your WGA registration number, but this is not required.) When we receive your entry, we will assign your script a number and the Judges will identify your screenplay solely by its title and script number. Under no circumstances should you include your name or contact information anywhere within the body of your screenplay.
My screenplay is longer than 120 pages. Will it be disqualified?
Your script will not be disqualified if it is a few pages longer or shorter than our specified lengths; however, we cannot accept scripts that are more than 135 pages long (excluding the title page). Scripts that exceed 135 pages will be disqualified.
Oops! I just found some typos in the script I submitted. Can I send you my revisions?
Please make sure you proofread your script very carefully before you submit it! Our Administrators and Judges are all paid professionals, and it takes a great deal of time to record, distribute, read and evaluate each entry; therefore, once you’ve submitted your script, we cannot accept any revisions or corrected pages for that entry under any circumstances. If you wish to submit a revised draft of your screenplay, you may enter it as a brand new submission and pay the additional entry fee; but, unless you’ve done an extensive and significant rewrite on your script, we do not encourage this.
If I order Judge's Feedback, when will I receive it?
All Feedback will be held here in our office as long as your script is still in the running for a prize. So, depending upon how far your script advances in the contest, your Feedback will either be emailed to you after the Quarter-Finalists are announced in July, after the Semi-Finalists are announced in August, after the Finalists are announced in September, or if your script advances to the Final Round of competition, you’ll receive your Feedback once the Winners are announced in October.
