Born in Queens and raised in the Bronx, Gary discovered his gift for storytelling in 1993 while living in California, after honorable service in the Navy and Army from 1983 to 1992. What began as a creative spark quickly grew into a powerful body of work. Between 1995 and 2000, all four of his original stage plays—Justice by Force, Mama It’s My Baby, Our Streets Our Neighborhoods, and Until Death Do Us Part—were produced and performed in Berkeley and Oakland, California. Gary wrote, directed, and produced each play, establishing himself as a driven and versatile creative force. He later expanded into publishing, releasing several books, including Deceptive Vows, Deceptive Vows Revised Edition, Predator on the Diamond: The Boston Red Sox Youth Molestation Story, Inspirational & Educational Poems, Motivational & Inspirational Poems, and Motivational Poetic Verses.
In 2000, Gary moved into screenwriting and completed several feature screenplays, including Deceptive Vows, Predator in the Clubhouse: The Boston Red Sox Child Molestation Story, A Cop’s Justice, and Disaster in the Bayou: Katrina’s Wrath. His work has since earned notable festival recognition. Predator in the Clubhouse: The Boston Red Sox Child Molestation Story received six film festival selections, three of which resulted in awards. Deceptive Vows won Best Drama Screenplay at the 2021 Summer in the South Film Festival in Atlanta, Georgia. The six-minute short film version of Deceptive Vows was selected by seven festivals, with three selections earning awards. Gary adapted the screenplay from his stage play Until Death Do Us Part, which he wrote, produced, and directed. The play premiered in Oakland, California, in 2000 and returned for an encore presentation in 2001. Today, Gary serves as the CEO and Founder of Tavares Entertainment, LLC, which was established in 2005. Through the company, he provides affordable publishing and creative writing services while supporting a broader mission of storytelling, education, and creative empowerment.
