Maddie Chavez, a Chicana writer based in LA, was raised by a single conservative father alongside her three spirited and outspoken sisters in a household where opinions clashed, but stories were plentiful. She further developed her voice at Chapman University’s Dodge College, earning a BFA in TV Writing & Production. In 2024, she was a part of the National Hispanic Media Coalition’s Scriptwriter Program cohort. After losing her mom to leukemia and having to mature at an accelerated pace, Maddie channeled her need for escapism into fantasy and sci-fi that focuses on uncompromising women within distinct time periods or genres infused with modern sensibilities - whether that be dystopian worlds or fairytale realms. Yet she’s not waiting for her own fairy godmother to conjure up the perfect dress thanks to her love of fashion and sewing. She uses this talent to not only enrich her characters with color and detail but also when she directs her own short fashion films, such as “Doppelgänger” and “Ghosted.” Through her monthly volunteer group, she connects with others, demonstrating her passion for stories that explore themes of social justice and overcoming adversity, with real-world impact beyond the page. She loves horror films, cooking Mexican food, and she uses her library card like a credit card with no limit.
