Ganeesh Genus is an award-winning filmmaker from West Palm Beach, Florida who mixes real with surreal, to accurately depict the world around him. Earning a Bachelor's degree in Television and Film Production from St. John’s University, and his MFA from The City College of New York, Ganeesh’s work has been screened across the U.S in New York, Los Angeles, and Atlanta, and abroad in China, Nigeria, Poland, England and Spain. Through his work that showcases the everyday trials of Black millennials, Ganeesh has received multiple awards including being named an Honorary State Representative in Indiana in 2016, a slew of awards on the festival circuit including Best Director and Best Film at the Boulevard Film Festival in 2020, and most recently, two nominations at the 2025 News & Documentary Emmys.
Recently, Ganeesh has delved into the world of nonfiction. He has worked on HISTORY’S GREATEST MYSTERIES hosted by Laurence Fishburne as an Associate Producer and Segment Producer, the Netflix true crime series CONVERSATIONS WITH A KILLER: THE SON OF SAM TAPES, and Co-produced HOLLYWOOD BLACK for Amazon/MGM+, Radical Media, and Culture Machine. HOLLYWOOD BLACK was nominated for two awards at the 2025 News and Documentary Emmys: Outstanding Arts and Culture Documentary and Best Documentary.
When he’s not working, Ganeesh spends his time volunteering in and around New York City, listening to old reggae (because they just don’t make it like that anymore), at home playing with Smokey, his cat, and reading the back of every book in the closest bookstore he can find. Do not ask about his "to be read” pile that is about as tall as he is.
