Scrybe

Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 5, 2026

Your privacy matters to us. This policy explains what personal information we collect, what we do with it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.

Scrybe LLC ("we," "us," "Scrybe") runs the platform at scrybe.to where screenwriters submit work to competitions, grants, residencies, and workshops. It applies to scrybe.to and all related Scrybe services.

What we collect

You give us:

  • Account information: name, email, password (stored hashed), phone, billing address.
  • Profile and submission information: the creative work you submit (screenplays, series bibles, treatments, prose, pitches, or other materials), project descriptions, bios, preferences, contest entries.
  • Payment information: billing name and address, the last four digits and brand of your card. Full card numbers go directly to Stripe and never touch our servers.
  • Partner-requested information: program partners may ask for additional information specific to their program (for example, mailing address, demographic details for diversity initiatives, prior writing credits, geographic eligibility, or proof of eligibility documents). The exact fields are shown on the submission form for that program. This information is collected on behalf of the partner and shared with them.
  • Anything you send to support.

We collect automatically when you use the site:

  • Device and connection information: IP address, browser, operating system, language, timestamps, and the page that referred you.
  • How you use the site: pages viewed, links clicked, search terms.
  • Cookies — see "Cookies and tracking" below.

We get from third parties:

  • Payment confirmations and fraud signals from Stripe.
  • Submission information from partner organizations when you've entered one of their programs.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal information.

We do share some information with the groups below. Under California law, sharing for advertising is a "share" you can opt out of.

Service providers (under contract, with data-protection terms). These providers process information on our behalf to operate the platform — they're integral to the service, not optional features. Using Scrybe means your data is processed by them as part of normal operation.

  • Stripe — payments and payment fraud prevention. Only used when you make a purchase.
  • Cloudflare — site delivery, DDoS protection, bot challenges. Used on every request.
  • Amazon Web Services (AWS) — server infrastructure and transactional/marketing email delivery. Used on every request.
  • Umami (self-hosted on our own AWS infrastructure) — anonymized usage statistics. Does not use cookies, does not track individuals, and does not share data with any third party.
  • Plausible Analytics — privacy-friendly, cookieless aggregate site usage statistics.

Advertising and analytics partners. Scrybe does not load any third-party advertising trackers of its own. However, individual program partners may enable any of the following platforms on their program pages, and these will load only if you accept marketing cookies: Google Analytics, Google Ads, Meta Pixel, LinkedIn Insight Tag, TikTok Pixel, and Amplitude. Which of these (if any) are active depends on the specific program you're viewing — the program page identifies the partners involved. When active, these platforms receive the page you visited, your IP address, your browser identifier, and the values of their tracking cookies. Under California law this is a "share" of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. You can accept or reject all marketing tracking using our cookie banner or "Your Privacy Choices" in our footer.

Partner organizations — when you submit to a partner-run program, we share your submission and contact information with that partner so they can review your entry and contact you.

Legal and safety — when the law requires it, in response to valid legal process, or when needed to protect Scrybe, our users, or the public.

Business changes — if Scrybe is acquired or merged, your information may transfer as part of the deal. We'll notify you before a different policy applies.

Aggregated or de-identified data — we may share data that does not identify you for any purpose.

Where your data goes

Scrybe is in the United States. If you're in the EEA, UK, Switzerland, or elsewhere outside the US, your information will be transferred to the US and to other countries where our service providers operate. For EU transfers we rely on the Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission. For UK transfers we use the UK International Data Transfer Addendum to the SCCs. We apply additional safeguards where needed.

Cookies and tracking

Our cookie banner controls all of this. The first time you visit, you can accept or reject non-essential cookies, and you can change your mind at any time using the "Cookies" or "Your Privacy Choices" link in our footer.

Cookies Scrybe sets

These are the cookies our platform uses directly to keep the site working and remember your preferences.

Cookie Category What it does How long
scrybe Strictly necessary Keeps you logged in Session
XSRF-TOKEN Strictly necessary Protects against cross-site request forgery Session
cf_clearance Strictly necessary Cloudflare bot/DDoS challenge Up to 30 days
cc_cookie Strictly necessary Stores your cookie-consent choice 6 months
theme Functional Remembers your light/dark theme choice 1 year
__stripe_mid, __stripe_sid Strictly necessary Stripe fraud prevention during checkout Up to 1 year

Optional marketing cookies — depending on the program partner

Scrybe does not set marketing cookies of its own. We use optional PostHog analytics cookies only after you accept Analytics. (Our internal Umami analytics is self-hosted, cookieless, and does not identify individuals.) The cookies below are only set if both of these are true:

  1. You have accepted marketing cookies in our banner, and
  2. The program partner whose page you're viewing has enabled one of the platforms below.

If a partner hasn't enabled a tracker, none of these cookies are set — even if you've accepted marketing cookies. You can withdraw consent at any time via the "Cookies" or "Your Privacy Choices" link in our footer.

When a partner has enabled the platform, that platform sets the following cookies on the program page:

Cookie Platform How long
_fbp, _fbc Meta Pixel Up to 90 days
_ga, _gcl_* (and similar) Google Analytics / Google Ads Up to 2 years
LinkedIn Insight Tag cookies LinkedIn Up to 6 months
_ttp (and similar) TikTok Pixel Up to 13 months
AMP_* Amplitude Up to 1 year

Categories explained:

  • Strictly necessary cookies are required for the site to work. They're always on. You can block them in your browser, but the site won't function correctly.
  • Functional cookies remember preferences you've explicitly set.
  • Marketing cookies are off by default and only set after you accept them — and only when a program partner has enabled the corresponding platform.

Browser signals. We honor the Global Privacy Control signal. If your browser sends Sec-GPC: 1, we treat your visit as an opt-out of advertising sharing automatically — no marketing cookies will be set, and we record this opt-out in our consent log.

How long we keep things

  • Active account data — While the account is active, plus 90 days after deletion.
  • Submission and entry data — While the account is active. Submissions are private by default — only you, Scrybe staff, and the program partner you submitted to can see them. If you've chosen to make a project public, deleting your account also takes the public page down.
  • Payment records — 7 years (US tax and accounting).
  • Cookie consent records — 5 years (compliance audit trail).
  • Marketing email records — Until you unsubscribe, plus 30 days.
  • Server access logs — 90 days.
  • Backups — 30 days from the most recent backup.

We may retain information longer than the periods above when required by law, court order, contractual obligation (including retention requirements imposed by program partners), or to defend or pursue legal claims. In those cases, the data is held only for the purpose that requires it and deleted once that purpose has been satisfied.

Your rights

If we have personal information about you, you can:

  • See what we have about you.
  • Correct anything that's wrong.
  • Delete your account and your personal information.
  • Withdraw consent for marketing emails (every email has an unsubscribe link) and marketing cookies (footer link).

We verify your identity before fulfilling any of these requests so that we only share your information with you.

California residents also have the right to:

  • Know what categories and specific pieces of personal information we've collected, where we got them, why we have them, and who we share them with.
  • Delete personal information we've collected from you (with limited legal exceptions).
  • Correct inaccurate personal information.
  • Opt out of the "sharing" of personal information. We do not sell personal information. We do share with advertising partners as described above. Opt out via the "Your Privacy Choices" link in our footer or by enabling Global Privacy Control in your browser.
  • Limit the use of sensitive personal information. The only sensitive personal information we collect is your account password (a credential), which we use exclusively to authenticate you — a permitted purpose under California regulation that does not trigger this right.
  • Not be discriminated against for exercising any of these rights. We won't deny service, charge different prices, or provide a degraded experience.

To submit a California request: email [email protected] with the subject "California Privacy Request," or use the "Your Privacy Choices" link. We verify your request by matching the information you provide against what we have on file. You may use an authorized agent — they'll need written, signed permission from you, and we may verify your identity directly.

EEA, UK, and Swiss residents also have the right to:

  • Get a copy of your information in a portable, machine-readable format.
  • Restrict how we process your information in certain cases.
  • Object to processing we do based on legitimate interest.
  • Complain to your local data protection authority. The EU list is at edpb.europa.eu; UK residents can complain to ico.org.uk.

We are not required to appoint a Data Protection Officer. Privacy questions: [email protected].

Children's privacy

Scrybe is for people 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we discover we have, we'll delete it. If you believe we have collected information from a minor, email [email protected].

Security

We use industry-standard safeguards: TLS encryption in transit, encryption at rest for sensitive fields, hashed passwords, and access controls. Stripe handles all payment card data; we do not store full card numbers after a transaction. No system is perfectly secure, but we work continuously to protect your information.

Third-party links

Our site links to other sites we don't control. Their privacy practices are their own — read their policies before sharing personal information with them.

Changes

We may update this policy. If we make material changes, we'll email you or post a prominent notice. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent change.

Optional PostHog analytics. With your consent, PostHog, Inc. processes activity and pseudonymous identifiers on our behalf to help us improve Scrybe. This is separate from partner marketing tracking and from anonymous usage statistics. See the optional analytics and cookie disclosure below for what we collect, storage and retention, US hosting, and how to withdraw consent or request deletion.

Optional analytics and your cookie choices

Updated October 4, 2026.

Your choice

You can use Scrybe without optional analytics. We use PostHog, Inc. to understand how people use Scrybe and where they get stuck, so we can improve the experience. We rely on your consent for this analytics collection and processing. PostHog starts only when you accept Analytics in our cookie preferences. Accepting Marketing alone does not enable it.

Choose Reject all to refuse optional cookies, or Customize to choose analytics and marketing separately. You can change or withdraw your choice through Cookies or Your Privacy Choices in the website footer, or Cookie preferences in your partner or reader account menu. Withdrawing analytics consent stops new analytics collection and clears the current analytics identity from your browser. It does not automatically delete information already collected.

What we send to PostHog

We record which areas of Scrybe you visit, marketplace listings you view, checkout steps you complete, payment attempts, and completed purchases. This can include the time of the activity, listing and purchase identifiers, product types, purchase totals and currency, and the payment provider used. We do not send payment credentials or card details.

PostHog uses a randomly generated browser identifier to connect activity across visits. If you are signed in, we associate activity with an account identifier. These identifiers are pseudonymous, rather than anonymous: we can relate the account identifier to your Scrybe account.

We do not send your name, email address, scripts, feedback, form answers, full page URLs, URL query parameters, or referring page URLs to PostHog. Session recording and automatic capture of page content are disabled. On our deployed sites, analytics requests pass through Scrybe’s servers, which do not forward your IP address, Scrybe cookies, or authorization headers to PostHog. Our PostHog project is also configured to discard client IP data, and geographic enrichment is disabled.

Cookies, browser storage, and retention

The essential cc_cookie remembers your cookie choices for 180 days. After analytics opt-in, PostHog cookies whose names begin with ph_ remember your analytics identity for up to 180 days and may be renewed while analytics is enabled. PostHog also uses browser session storage to maintain the current session and local storage to remember analytics opt-in or opt-out; local storage remains until it is cleared or replaced. Optional analytics storage is not created before you opt in.

Cookie expiry is separate from the retention of information already sent to PostHog. We retain that information while it is needed to compare usage over time, investigate friction in checkout, and assess improvements to Scrybe. You can request access to or deletion of analytics information associated with your account through our contact page. We may need to verify your identity; if you used Scrybe without signing in, we may need your browser's analytics identifier to locate that activity.

Where information is processed

Our PostHog project is hosted in the United States. PostHog processes information on our behalf, and its service providers may process it in other countries. You can read about those providers on PostHog's subprocessor page. PostHog's data processing agreement describes its safeguards for international transfers, including EU standard contractual clauses and the UK transfer addendum. Contact us through our contact page for information about the safeguards applicable to your data.
